Als Vertreter der Infrastructure as Code-Tools setzt es gewünschte Soll-Zustände (States) kontrolliert und inkrementell um, Administrator:innen müssen sich keine Gedanken über hierfür erforderliche Schritte machen. States werden im menschen- und maschinenlesbaren YAML-Format definiert, was den Einstieg gegenüber anderen Lösungen etwas vereinfacht. Auch in puncto Erweiterbarkeit muss sich das Tool nicht verstecken; so erlaubt es Echtzeit-Kommunikation mit Drittanbieter-Systemen und die automatische Anwendung von Gegenmaßnahmen für Infrastruktur-Veränderungen. Dieser Workshop behandelt die Grundlagen, die für einen fundierten Einstieg in Salt notwendig sind. Gängige Konzepte werden anhand von interaktiven Aufgaben erklärt und vertieft. 

The workshop gives practical examples of the novel approach to proactive optimization of cloud resources based on the dynamical and anticipated use of resources. The prediction of application workload is provided as input to the advanced, machine learning-based solvers which calculate the optimal deployment plan for the application to anticipate future needs. The latest state-of-the-art methods are used for forecasting, like ES-Hybrid and advanced Monte Carlo Tree Search-based solvers, which are used to find the optimal solution.
