Private Cloud – success factors beyond automation

In recent years OpenStack has become an important pillar in the dynamic BMW Compute infrastructure. By creating and deleting more than 400,000 VMs per month, internal customers consume an average of about 40,000 vCPUs in a very agile manner. While cloud infrastructure automation is essential, it is far from sufficient. It is usually less technical aspects like service design, onboarding concepts, accounting models, communication and community spirit that lead to great success and run on the new platform. BMW would like to share your approach to provide food for thought and contribute to a successful Private Cloud Deployment.

In addition to responsibility for solutions and architecture in the Linux infrastructure, Andreas began work on the first private IaaS cloud concepts in 2011. In 2014 he started with the introduction of OpenStack at BMW. As an agile startup within the company, the project became a great success. As Product Owner for OpenStack, he never tires of emphasizing the importance of non-technical factors when introducing such a new technology.
